Obituary for Sebastian C. Gemmel
Sebastian C. (Bot) Gemmel, formerly of Catasauqua, died July 8, 2014 at Gracedale Nursing Home, Nazareth, Pa. at the age of 94 years, 6 months and 4 days. He was the husband of the late Helen J. (Krcelich) Gemmel who died February 2000. Born January 4, 1920 in Catasauqua, he was the son of the late George and Mary (Kartje) Gemmel. He worked for various construction companies, was a boiler tender for the Old Dutch Brewery, Catasauqua and the Horlacher Brewery, Allentown. He also tended bar at various clubs in Allentown, Bethlehem, and Catasauqua. He was a part-time policeman for the Borough of North Catasauqua, and eventually retired as a custodian for the Catasauqua School District. Post retirement he worked for Newark Dressmaker Supply, Bethlehem. Survivors: George (Judy), Edward (Beverly), Robert (Cheryl), Richard (Deborah), and John (Deborah); grandchildren Tami (Timothy Cunningham), Sherri (Christopher Todd Martinek), Lisa (Dr. William Lackey Jr.), Tina (Dr. Andrew Coyle), Rebecca (Jeffrey Sternberg), Stephanie (Thomas Falzone), Richelle (Daniel Korytoski), Jessica (Andre Alford), Nicole (Jason Hardegree), Tara (Stephen Suhovsky), Ryan Gemmel, and Derek Gemmel; and 19 great grandchildren. Sebastian was preceded in death by sisters Helen Gemmel, Magdalene James, Catherine McQuillen, Rosa Winkler, Mary Kuhar, Jean Schunk, Elizabeth Williams, Anna Sharkazy, June Hassler; brothers John, George, and Joseph. The family wishes to thank the caring and thoughtful staffs at Sacred Heart Senior Living, Northampton and Gracedale Nursing Home, Nazareth. Funeral services will be held at 11am Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Brubaker Funeral Home, 234 Walnut Street, Catasauqua. Call from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home.
