Obituary for Shirley "Sis" James
Shirley “Sis” James, 85, of North Catasauqua, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2021, surrounded by her family at Lehigh Valley Hospital- Cedar Crest. She was the beloved wife of the late John “Murph” James, Jr., for 59 beautiful years before his passing in July of 2012. She was the daughter of the late James and Mary Ann (Fry) Marx.
Shirley was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church of Catasauqua. She was a master seamstress who enjoyed designing clothing for countless events including creating uniforms and flags for the school band. Shirley was her grandchildren’s number one fan! She decorated for all holidays and won numerous awards for many years for her artistry in decoration, including the family’s famous Halloween floats. She especially loved Christmas and was known to embody the magic of the holiday. People would drive from near and far to view the family house during Christmas. Shirley also enjoyed volunteering her time to cook for families in the neighborhood. She was notably proud of her country. Above all, Shirley’s family meant the most to her. She was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, and friend. She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Shirley is lovingly survived by daughters Debra, wife of John Moll of Catasauqua, Patricia DeMentri of Robbinsville, NJ; and Karen, wife of Gerald Budny of Richboro; six grandchildren, Jason Moll, Nicole DeMentri, Christopher Budny, Katherine Budny, Anna Budny and Elaina Budny. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by brothers, James, Cornelius, and Charles Marx; and sister, Catherine Brittenburg.
A Funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, September 23, 2021, in the Brubaker Funeral Home, Inc. 234 Walnut Street Catasauqua, PA, 18032. Call 10 to 11a.m.. Thursday in the funeral home. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Memorial Park, Allentown. Contributions: In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Shirley’s name to Alzheimer's Association at 399 Market St., Suite 102, Phila, PA 19106, ATTN: Delaware Valley Chapter.
