Obituary for Stephen J. Banko, Sr.
Stephen J. Banko, 90, of Catasauqua died on May 15, 2024 at Country Meadows in Allentown. Born in Palmerton, he was the son of the late John and Mary (Klutzaritz) Banko.
He was the husband of Margaret (Stipkovits) Banko with whom he shared 65 years of marriage. He was a graduate of Palmerton High School and went on to serve honorably in the U.S. Navy for several years.
He was a longtime member of the former St. Lawrence Church in N. Catasauqua and later a member of St. John Fisher Catholic Church in N. Catasauqua.
He was the owner of his auto shop in Catasauqua for 18 years. He worked at Mack Trucks and retired after 25 years of service.
He drove race cars at Mahoning-Nazareth and Dorney Park and won many championships. Stephen was an avid bowler and had several 300 games. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife Margaret, daughters; Connie Moll (Tom) of N. Catasauqua, Cindy Stringer (Tim) of Clementon, N.J.; son Stephen Banko (Carole) of Macungie; 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter Holly.
There will be a visitation on Monday, May 20, 2024 at St. John Fisher Church, 1219 3rd St., N. Catasauqua, PA. 18032 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. with a mass of Christian burial to follow in the church at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow mass at the church cemetery.
