Obituary for William A. Gibson
William A. Gibson, 96 years of Allentown died Saturday January 3, 2015 at Phoebe Home in Allentown. Born in Allentown he was a son of the late William A. and Huldah (Lippert) Gibson, Sr. He and his wife Doris E. (Wagner) Gibson celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in June. Before retiring William was a cost accountant for Bradley Pulverizer for over 30 years. He then worked part time at a dry cleaner. William was a long time member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Allentown. He attended Allentown Prep School and Valley Forge Military Academy. He was an airplane spotter at Queen City Airport as part of their Civil Defense Program. William volunteered for the United Way and at the Lehigh Valley Hospital at Cedar Crest for 30 years in the emergency room. Surviving along with his wife Doris is his son Thomas D. Gibson, daughter Mariellen Gibson-Butler wife of Kenneth Butler of Doylestown and 3 grandchildren; Alex, Abigail and Michael Butler. A memorial service will be held at 11am on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at the Asbury United Methodist Church, 1533 Springhouse Road, Allentown, PA 18104. There will be a calling period in the Parlor at Asbury from 10am – 11am on Saturday prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made in his name payable to the church.
