Obituary for William "Flop" L. Knerr, Sr.
William L. “Flop” Knerr Sr., 97 of Cedarbrook Allentown formerly of Alburtis and West Catasauqua died December 12, 2015 in Allentown. Born in Alburtis he was the son of the late William C. and Sadie L. (Kurtz) Knerr. He was married to the late Helen L. (Sharkazy) Knerr.
William worked as a shipping mechanic for the former Fuller Co. of Catasauqua for 36 years before retiring in 1983. He was a member of the Lyons Fire Co., Eagles F.O.E., Alburtis Fire Co., the Alburtis Rod and Gun, Fullerton Fire Co., the American Legion Post # 367 and the West Catasauqua Fire Co. William served his country during WWII in the U.S. Army and was a recipient of 2 Purple Hearts. William was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Surviving are a daughter Kristine wife of Thomas Gersbach, son William L. Knerr Jr. husband of Dee, sisters Jean Smoyer and Elizabeth Hoffman; four grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 11:00am Friday December 18, 2015 in the Brubaker Funeral Home, Inc. 234 Walnut Street Catasauqua, Pa. 18032. His viewing will be from 10-11am Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to St. Mary’s Church, 122 Union Street, Catasauqua, 18032 or to Cedarbrook Nursing Home - Administration, 350 S. Cedarbrook Road, Allentown, 18104.
