Obituary for Barbara Mae Melcher
Barbara Mae Melcher, 85, a long time resident of Madison, New Jersey, passed peacefully Wednesday, November 25, 2020 at Traditions of Hanover in Bethlehem, PA. Born in Queens, NY, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Matilda (Ehlerding) Vollmoeller. Barbara was the wife of the late Ronald E. Melcher.

Barbara worked for many years as a secretary for a variety of places; beginning as a young woman with Texaco Company, Calvary Presbyterian Church when her children reached school age, and eventually retiring from Drew University serving as the secretary to President's Paul Hardin and Former Governor Tom Kean. Barbara was a very active member of Calvary Presbyterian Church of Florham Park, NJ. having spent several terms serving as a Deacon and on the Board of Session. She was most notably known for her beautiful singing voice and musical talents and was a member of the church's choir, handbell choir and as of late, often shared her talents on the piano alongside her granddaughter. She enjoyed performing and often starred in local productions of musicals such as ‘Oklahoma’ and ‘Guys and Dolls’ and she was a long time member of the Florham Park choral group, the Florhamaires as well as more recently, the Songsters. She was also a devoted and proud long time member of the local women's Chapter AB of the Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO) where she served in many roles including two terms as President as well as Chair of the state convention. When not singing or performing, Barbara volunteered at the Morristown Memorial Hospital and the local Community Soup Kitchen. Barbara enjoyed taking vacations to the New Jersey shore, visiting Disney World and watching the NY Mets.

Barbara was a devoted wife, loving mother and caring grandmother. She brought a charismatic instant friendship to everyone she met and will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her children, son Ronald Melcher and wife Janet; daughter Debra Moore and husband Scott; and son William T. Melcher; grandchildren Bethanie Melcher, Trevor Moore, Spencer Moore and Rebecca Moore.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family with plans for an online celebration of life.
The Brubaker Funeral Home, Inc. of Catasauqua is honored to be handling the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to a charity that is in keeping with personal connections to Barbara such as PEO, Madison Music and Arts or The Interfaith Food Pantry.
