Obituary for William "Zip" Firman
William Firman (Zip) passed away February 16, 2021 at age 90, one month short of his 91st birthday. William was born to Constantine and Mary Lagosky Firman on March 16th, 1930 in Coaldale, Pennsylvania.
William (Zip) was a standout football player at Coaldale High School and earned an invitation to play at the college level at Rider University in New Jersey. William served in the US Army along with his 2 brothers, Walter and Michael, and earned an honorable discharge and went to work for Mack Truck in Allentown, Pennsylvania. William was an avid golfer and continued to play regularly through 2019.
William married his high school sweetheart, Ann Chromiak in 1953 and had two children Debra and John. They made their home in Whitehall, Pennsylvania where he has lived for the past 60 years. William continued to live in Whitehall until May of 2020 when he became a resident at the Renaissance Nursing Home in Northampton, Pennsylvania. His wife Ann passed away in September of 2007.
William is survived by his daughter Debra and husband Thomas Melina and son John Firman, grandchildren Mathew Melina, Meghan Melina, and great grandson Wesley James Melina all who reside in Massachusetts. Nieces and nephews include Karen Kusko, Michael Kusko, Elaine Hilt, and William Torick. William will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
