Obituary for Darlene F Merkel
Darlene F. Merkel, 86, formerly of Catasauqua, died Wednesday April 17, 2024, at Cedarbrook Nursing Home in Allentown. She was the wife of the late Charles E. Merkel and long-time companion of the late Joseph Mingora. Born in Emmaus, she was a daughter of the late Claude Nonnemacher and Gertrude (Thomas) Duracinsky and stepfather Joe Duracinsky.
Darlene was a member of St. John’s U.C.C. Howertown for many years. After graduating from Catasauqua High School, she went to work, retiring as a head teller from Bank of America.
Surviving are her sons Kerry Merkel and wife Drena, Keith Merkel and Kevin Merkel; 9 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 2 great great granddaughters; brother-in-law Donald and wife Lorraine Merkel, sister-in-law Barbara Merkel, sister-in-law Grace Duracinsky, ½ sister Linda Christman and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother Joseph Duracinsky, Jr.
Funeral services will be held at 12pm Wednesday April 24, 2024, at Brubaker Funeral Home, Inc., 234 Walnut St. Catasauqua, PA 18032. Her viewing will be from 11-12pm Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment to follow at Arlington Memorial Park Cemetery in Whitehall. Memorial contributions may be made in her name payable to St. John U.C.C. Howertown, 22 Atlas Way, Northampton, PA 18067.
