Obituary for Anna J. Barna
Anna J. Barna, 97 of Allentown, passed away at Phoebe Home Allentown on June 9, 2024.Born in Ormrod, she was the daughter of the late John Torbey and Mary (Gulla) Torbey Czonstka.
She was the wife of John Barna with whom she shared 62 years of marriage prior to his passing in 2008.
Anna was a member of St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church in Northampton. She was a sewing machine operator for various garment industries in the Lehigh Valley, retiring after fifty one years.
Anna was a member and volunteer of Northern Valley Ambulance Corp. (N.O.V.A.) of North Whitehall.
She loved gardening, going to the casino, making traditional Ukrainian/Polish foods, like halupkis and pierogis, and spending time with her loved ones. She was a kind and loving person who will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Marie Barna-Rogers and her husband Mark, granddaughter Alexis “Lexi” Rogers, sisters Jeanette Meckes and Dorothy DeSentis, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Mary Ann Martinek, Francis Torbey, John Torbey, Stanley Torbey and Thomas Torbey.
There will be a calling period on Thursday evening from 6-8 pm at Brubaker Funeral Home, Inc. 327 Chestnut St., Coplay, PA., and an additional a.m. calling period Friday morning from 9:30-10:30 a.m. A mass of Christian burial will follow at 11am at St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church on Newport Avenue in Northampton. Interment will follow mass at the church cemetery on Main St.
