Obituary for Athea E. Yates
Althea E. Yates 90 years old of Northampton died Thursday October 27, 2011 in Allentown. Born in Allentown she was the daughter of the late Charles and Minnie E. (Hoffman) Yates. Althea was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ of Nazareth and a former member of Grace United Church of Christ of Northampton where she served on church council. She worked for AT&T Bell Labs of Allentown for 36 years before retiring in 1983 and was a secretary for the Telephone Pioneers of America. Prior to that she worked as a clerk for the F.B.I. Althea worked as a civilian for the U.S. Navy during WWII. She later served in the Navy during the Korean War. Althea was a member of Jessie K. Berlin chapter 492 Eastern Star of N. Catasauqua. Surviving are a sister Doris Charrow of New York City, NY., nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. A memorial service will be held at 10:00am in St. John's UCC of Nazareth, 183 South Broad Street, Nazareth, PA 18064. Call from 9-10am at the church. Interment to follow at Allen Union Cemetery, 4th & Main St. Northampton, 18067. Memorial contributions may be given in her name payable St. John’s U.C.C or to Grace Reformed Congregation, 902 Lincoln Ave. Northampton, 18067 or to the American Cancer Society, 3893 Alder Place, Bethlehem, 18017.
